Activities
Some activities are stationary such as Homework or Quiet Table and are offered everyday with each activity block. All others rotate depending on students attending that day, changes in daily staff, weather, or interest. The students may decide when it is best for them to do their homework. If they decide it is never, then they may be added to the mandatory homework list by request of the student, a parent, or the teacher and will be assigned “Homework” as their first activity.
Snack
Students are usually offered 3 choices at snack time. Snack choices usually include fruit, various cracker items, popcorn, granola bars, etc. Students may also choose to bring their own snack but must check with a staff person first. We like to make sure it’s not a 20′ chain of Nerds. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
Group Meetings
These are discussion times with varying topics or group activities. We may discuss current events, past events, weekend plans, pet peeves, jokes, music, trends, the desire for truth in a lot of things, cartoons, movies, etc. It’s a space to practice sharing a conversation with others, listening to others, and hopefully, some bonding.
Bus
A school bus home is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting in mid September. ARPS (Amherst school system) provides the buses and vans. Guardians should inform the program director in advance of their intention to have their children on the bus. Otherwise, guardians are expected to pick-up their children by 5:30pm.
